I know that the shop I am talking about today, is not a new hot spot in Munich. However, it is one of my favourites and there are still some people out there who haven`t heard about it!
Sama Sama ~ Chocolate Paradise, as I call it. The little shop is hidden in a small street close to the famous Viktualienmarkt in Munich. In front of this tiny shop you can sit on a few chairs and enjoy coffee and a piece of homemade cakes and pastries. They still do some really old-fashioned ones, which remind me of my childhood!
Passing the little „production“ kitchen at the entrance, you notice the poster of the movie „Chocolat“ with Johnny Depp and Juliette Binoche. Like in this story, Sama Sama offers you a variety of „aphrodisiac“ chocolates! Here they knead the nougat, fill the dates with marzipan and dip the pralines into the best liquid chocolate.
Since 1996 Wilhelmine Raben runs this amazing Chocolaterie and from the 10 different flavours of pralines she offered in the beginning, there are 150 different ones now! These pralines are more than a chocolate candy. To be honest, it is art!
French nougat and marzipan is harmoniously mixed with pistachios, rasberries, champagne, blueberries, oranges, coconut, coffee and more to one unique piece. But the finishing touch is given by pistachio and pumpkin kernels, little sugar pearls, roses, nuts, candied violets, gold glitter and more, or even gold leaf.
Some even are named after famous people. I wonder what I can do to make them name one after me 😉
On your way to the „holy“ display at the end of the narrow shop, you pass all other kind of temptations: fruits and nuts dipped in three sort of chocolate, nougat variations, different chocolate bunnies (easter is approaching), colourful candies, and more.
Finally in the back of the store, the whole spleandor of Chocolate unfolds, the unique Sama Sama pralines. You are spoilt for choice and it mostly takes a small eternity to choose. It definately speeds up a bit, if you know your prefered main component – nougat or marzipan! By the way, in my blogpost under the topic „Food Heaven“ you will find my favourites…
In the rare case that you don`t like pralines, they have the delicious Florentine cookies and the smoothest nougats, dipped in chocolate powder.
And yes, I am a Chocoholic!
By the way, Sama Sama is an indonesian word and means „Please, your welcome“.
You can take this literally!
