We have some traditions in our family. One of them certainly is our yearly teatime or breakfast in the traditional Confiserie Hanselmann in St. Moritz, Switzerland. Founded in 1894, it is already in the 4th generation and has been through many changes due to wars, deaths, weddings, economic crisis and flourishing tourism in the last decades. It has seen famous people such as Aha Khan, empress Soraya and Thomas Mann.
Already as a little girl, I used to go there with my family to enjoy a hot chocolate with whipped cream, a typical swiss coffee called „Schümli“ and – of course – one of these delicious little cakes and petit fours. I continued with these joyful visits with my friends later and we spent some legendary Après-Ski afternoons there 😉
It is really hard to choose among all this choice of sweets! And you shouldn`t forget to take some fresh bread and some chocolate with you before leaving. Both is handmade, fresh and delicious!
Although there has been some renovations in the Hanselmann, it didn´t take the look of these modern and mainstream boredom coffee places. Luckily it kept it´s unique retro charme. The best tables are at the window facing the lake of St. Moritz. Great view!
Whenever I go there with my family now, we always order „Birchermuesli“. This definately makes us happy!!However, this sort of porridge has nothing to do with a vegan and „low carb, low fat“ bowl, but is a real handmade and creamy Muesli.
In the meantime we even managed to prepare a Birchermuesli that comes very close to the one in the Confiserie Hanselmann. Yeah! We give you the recipe in our next blogpost in our „food heaven“ topic. Stay tuned!
