Tibbits (correct spelling, given in an interview by Ben himself) was a fairly well known character in Indian Wars history he rode, as wagon master, with George Armstrong Custer at the 1868 Battle of Washita River, and was later the butcher at the historic Red Cloud Sioux Agency, where this photo was taken.
